How do I become a member at Killearn Club?

To create a strong club with a sustainable, healthy membership, everyone will need to apply to become a member. Here’s how the process works:

What’s the best way to think about the differences between membership plans?

We are offering 3 membership plans: Clover, Camellia, and Ambassador.

CLOVER

Our Clover plan offers exceptional value, including golf on the beautifully redesigned Clover Course, a 9-hole experience that’s perfect for all skill levels. Along with this, you’ll enjoy all the benefits of our clubhouse and a range of recreation amenities, including the pool, pickleball, tennis, Trackman Range, Trackman bays, and PuttView 10. While this plan does not include play on the Camellia Course, it offers an outstanding club experience for those looking to enjoy a comprehensive range of club privileges.

CAMELLIA

Camellia has all of the benefits of the Clover plan, but allows members to play the newly designed and renovated 18-hole Camellia Course.

AMBASSADOR

Ambassador has all the benefits of Camellia, but gives members exclusive benefits of speed and convenience including priority booking, last-minute booking, premium merchandise, and first access to tournaments and events.

What are the membership costs?

We’ve simplified the Membership levels. We now have only 3 plans – Clover, Camellia, and Ambassador. Pricing can be found in our membership brochure which is available by request.

There are no F&B minimums.

When will the clubhouse and pool be complete?

What is the Killearn Club?

The Killearn Country Club & Inn, built in 1967, was designed around an 18-hole championship golf course. The club was the centerpiece of Killearn Estates, a suburban development that was the first of its kind in Tallahassee. The club became a social hotspot for many of Tallahassee’s influential citizens and a sporting destination for the country’s best golfers. The club has hosted 21 PGA, four LPGA tournaments and many other professional events. From 1969 to 1982, the Club was home to the PGA’s Tallahassee Open, later the Centel Classic (’83-’89). Legendary golfers Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino, Gary Player, Chi-Chi Rodriquez and other top golfers played in these tournaments.

In 2014, the club’s then-owner made a controversial decision to close the North Course (Narrows) and sell part of the property to a residential developer. Club members and Killearn residents objected and began a multi-year battle to preserve the golf course. The residential development never materialized, and in 2020 a group of club members incorporated as Killearn Golf Properties and raised private funds to buy the club. These new owners set out to repair aging facilities and stabilize the club’s finances. In 2022, Killearn Golf Properties sold the club to Tallahassee native David Cummings, who is committed to the project and the community. Cummings is leading the plan to restore the club, renovate the 18-hole Championship Course and practice facilities, along with an all-new clubhouse, restaurant, pool, tennis courts, and charming cottages for overnight stays, among other upscale amenities. In 2023, the renovation team announced that Killearn Country Club will become Killearn Club.

Is Killearn Club a private club?

Yes, we are a private club. As such, unaccompanied guests are not allowed. Accompanied guests are welcome. Guests must pay a fee and are only able to play a limited number of rounds a year.

What is the vision for the new club?

The vision for the Killearn Club is to restore Tallahassee’s landmark golf and social experience, while preserving the character of the neighborhood and instilling pride in members and residents.

Who is the club’s new owner?

Entrepreneur David Cummings, a Tallahassee native who grew up in Killearn Estates, is the new owner. David is making a multi-million dollar investment to reimagine the club, including the creation of new recreational facilities and social experiences.

Is there a family membership?

All our memberships are family memberships in that they include your immediate family – the primary member, their spouse, and children under the age of 23.

Why is there no individual membership?

Our goal was to simplify the membership offerings. Upon purchasing the club there were over 30+ membership plans. The new pricing is simple and straightforward. This leads to easy decision making for prospective members and for operational efficiencies for the Killearn Club team.

Second, we believe each of our three membership levels provide exceptional value – even if only one individual will be using it. Thus, you can think about it this way – all our plans are individual plans where families get an even better deal.

Families are crucial to the long term success of Killearn Club – fostering a vibrant, engaged community and ensuring stability.

Is there a corporate membership?

No, at this time there are no corporate memberships. However, we expect some members will utilize their membership for business purposes and pay for all expenses through corporate expense accounts.

Can I upgrade or downgrade after I join?

We offer the ability to upgrade or downgrade your membership upon the renewal date(s) of your annual membership. However, there will be a total limit on each membership tier so in certain cases you may be placed on a waiting list for the upgrade/downgrade. In the instance of downgrading to a membership with a lower initiation fee, no initiation fees will be refunded. Additionally, if upgrading your membership, you will be asked to pay the difference of the initiation rate at that time.

Is the initiation fee refundable?

We are a non-equity private membership club. Initiation fees are not refundable upon resignation from the club.

What are the payment terms of club expenses?

Non-membership dues expenses such as food and beverage, cart fees, instruction, pro shop, club fitting will be billed through our club management system as they occur. We issue monthly billing statements that are payable within 30 days of receipt.

How are membership dues collected?

Membership dues are billed monthly on the last day of the month for the subsequent month. If you prefer, you can also pay your annual dues in one lump sum.

What happens if I move or want to cancel my membership?

We would hate to see you go, but understand everyone’s needs change. We have a very simple club resignation process. You can cancel your membership upon your monthly renewal date. Simply provide written or email notice that you want to resign your membership and we’ll take it from there. Unfortunately, any pre-paid annual dues or initiation fees are not refundable.

In addition to my membership dues, are there any recurring charges?

When paying monthly dues or annual payments via credit card, there is a 3% processing fee. We encourage members to pay via ACH, which does not have processing fees.

Are there any F&B minimums?

No. There are no F&B minimums.

Will there be fees to use the Trackman indoor bays, Trackman Range, or practice areas when the clubhouse opens?

No. There will be no additional fees for members to use Trackman indoor bays, Trackman range, or practice areas.

What is the spouse policy?

We encourage your spouse to use the club. Our memberships include spouses and children under 23.

What is the kids policy?

We encourage families with kids to enjoy Killearn Club. It’ll be an outstanding, family-friendly environment to spend time together and learn the game of golf.

What is the guest policy?

Guests are a very important part of the Killearn Club community. We encourage our members to bring guests to enjoy all that Killearn Club has to offer. There is a $150 guest fee to play the Camellia Course. Guests must be accompanied by a member at all times and each individual guest is permitted to play once per quarter.

Is there a dress code?

Yes, Killearn Club has a dress code. Here are some guidelines:

Collared Shirts: Men are usually required to wear collared shirts, such as polo shirts or button-downs. Women can wear collared shirts or golf-specific tops.
Pants and Shorts: For men and women, shorts should be of a respectable length. Women may also wear skirts or skorts.
Footwear: Please wear golf shoes with soft spikes or athletic shoes. Please refrain from wearing metal spikes.
Hats and Caps: Hats are allowed, but should be worn in a forward-facing manner.
Avoid Denim and Casual Wear: Denim, cargo shorts, t-shirts, and other casual wear are generally not acceptable on the course.

Are pets allowed?

No. We thank you for keeping pets off the golf course.

Am I allowed to use my own golf cart on the golf courses?

No. We encourage members to drive their golf carts to the club, but only Killearn Club carts may be used on the property and the golf course. There will be parking areas available for your golf cart.

There is a $25 cart fee for use on the Camellia course.

What do you sell in the pro shops?

We will have a highly curated offering of quality Killearn Club branded merchandise and apparel available in our pro shops. We have worked very hard on the logo, branding, and story and know our members will be proud to wear it. Merchandise is only available to be purchased by Killearn Club members and their accompanied guests.

Will there be any food options available before the clubhouse opens?

Yes! Our Turn Shack is open and offering a range of self-serve food and beverages. We also have our Clover Cafe located in our amenities area.

Will the clubhouse be updated?

Plans include an all-new clubhouse. The new clubhouse will feature an upscale lounge and a dining area overlooking the course, as well as a full-service menu, special holiday offerings and space for private parties. The club will, once again, host annual social and dining events as well as regular golf and tennis tournaments.

Will the Inn be brought back as part of the renovation?

In homage to the Inn that previously operated on the property, we are exploring the concept of creating a small cluster of charming cottages for overnight guests.

Is the pool be updated?

Families will love the all-new resort-style swimming pool with poolside dining options and ample deck seating.

How is this project being funded?

Entrepreneur and Tallahassee native David Cummings is making a multi-million dollar investment of private funds to reimagine the club. The project is not using tax dollars or public funds.

What updates will be made to the golf course?

We’re paying special attention to the golf experience, with a complete renovation of the 18-hole Championship Course and a new 9-hole course, the Clover. Golf at the Killearn Club will appeal to players from the Big Bend and beyond. You can expect plush, well-maintained grounds and thoughtful improvements to the course layout. The plan includes amenities such as all-new practice areas, a longer practice range and a golf teaching facility, as well as smart features like cart GPS and Trackman Range technology. We are working with renowned golf architect Chris Wilczynski, ASGCA, and we’re excited to preserve the legacy of this historic hometown course.

Will the tennis and pickleball courts be included at the club?

The new Killearn Club will feature state-of-the-art tennis and pickleball courts perfectly suited for friendly matches, league play, tournaments and one-on-one instruction from one of our pros.

Was a rezoning required prior to renovation?

On September 21, 2022 the Tallahassee City Commission approved our request to restore Open Space zoning on more than 260 acres of club property. The decision protects the golf course and overall character of the neighborhood.

The commission also approved a clarification of the city’s land use plan that allows us to explore adding a small group of cottages for visiting players and guests of club members to enjoy.
